If party hosting is not your forte, that's about to change.
Wanting to do something special for someone special? I can help. I love hosting people and I love doing memorable and unique things for the people I love. Every year I throw a themed party for my boyfriend and every year he loves how much time and energy I put into making his birthday special and memorable. There's a sure fire recipe for a successful party and I think I have cracked the code.
Here's my recipe for a successful birthday.
Start your day right
I believe the energy you have in the morning sets the tone for the day, so for my partner's birthday I love doing something to kickstart the birthday excitement. My go to every year is making breakfast and decorating in accordance to whatever theme I pick.
This year's theme was Superheroes and Super villains. I hung some balloons that spell out "POW" like in old comic books and made the theme colours red, blue and yellow to also resemble comic book colours. On the day of I normally like to do something intimate and spend quality time together which is why we open presents and cut the cake together instead of the party day.
Let’s give ’em something to taco ’bout!
Once you pick a theme and start the birthday off on the right foot, now it's time to start planning the party. The most important thing I find is food and music. It creates ambiance and expectations for your guests the second they walk in. Having a variety of food and specifically themed food makes the party a lot more interesting. Also, food is definitely a form of entertainment so incredibly important. The charcuterie board we used was provided by Wild Mint, who absolutely killed it.
Wow factor
Light has an exceptional way of changing the mood and atmosphere of any place. Having a light feature or a water feature or anything that makes your guests go "wow," is a necessity. This year we had this beautiful display of light up marquee letters provided by Essential Letters here in Calgary.
Finer Details
When the bigger elements like food, decor and music are figured out, that's when I like to go in and really make the details special. Baskets and Blankets is the indoor picnic company we used this year and they were fantastic with including small superhero details like the water bottle with the cape and the little city skyline comic images.
