If spring cleaning is your favourite unofficial holiday this one is for you. Before we dive in, let's talk about what digital organization is. In this chaotic world, if we are not keeping things neat and organized, life can get pretty crazy.
In response to this we love keeping our homes and our spaces clean and orderly because a peaceful environment means a peaceful mind. In these modern times there is now a need to keep our digital spaces clean as well. Having digital planners and organizers, apps to help us stay consistent, using social media as folders to save ideas and so much more.
Let's get into some of the ways I like to stay organized digitally.
Tip #1 - A place for everything and everything in its place
My first tip would be to start with your home page or desktop background. Whatever screen page you see first should be organized. For my home page I have been using folders and cute backgrounds to keep everything pretty and visually appealing, but also I know exactly where everything is. If you want a tutorial on how I organize my desktop, please leave it in the comments!
Tip #2 - Tidy as you go
Photo folders, notes, voice memos, the most used apps on your phone get cluttered very easily. My best practices are going through photos right after I take them and clear out anything identical. When I have time I like to also go through notes or voice memos and clear out anything that is no longer useful instead of digitally hoarding files I don't need.
Tip #3 - Everyone loves free stuff
Luckily in these unprecedented virtual times, there are so many free resources that allow us to organize and plan our lives. I will list off some of my favourites, for any in depth tutorials or having a look at how I organize using these apps let me know if it interests you and I can write an article in the future.
Notion which may have quite literally changed my life and best of all it is free. Full disclosure I first came across it from TikTok through self care tok. It essentially lets you plan out your entire life. Anything and everything I want to keep organized I can do so with Notion. Examples of things I do to stay organized are my daily habits like getting my steps in, meditating, journaling, reading, working out and so much more.
Canva, is such a life saver. What can't you do with Canva? Luckily they have a free version and a paid version for pre-made templates. With so many templates you can make anything from a business logo to a wedding itinerary. Highly recommend checking this one out, especially if you run your own business or are into aesthetics and organization in general.
Lastly, this one is not free but I thought I would throw it in anyways. A revolutionary idea in my opinion is digital planners or agendas. Here is a super cute student planner as an example.
Tip #4 - Good old browser bookmarks
Listen, I get it, not a lot of people use their bookmarks anymore or at least we don't organize them and have a bunch of random giant lists of bookmarks. This year I decided to really go through and delete unnecessary bookmarks and create folders for the important things.
Personally, I have bookmarks for places I want to go, work links, free programs, and my everyday tabs. This allows me to close my browser everyday and start off on a clean slate instead of being distracted by old pages I never bother closing but also to save time and have all my links at hand and ready to go.
